The Australian Computer Society has called on state and federal governments to audit Australia's software developers to develop targeted assistance programs. Speaking at a software industry round table in Melbourne yesterday, ACS President Edward Mandla, pictured, also released the society's Software Quality Accreditation Policy, calling for widespread adoption of software quality assurance methodologies. The round table, hosted by the Australian Stock Exchange, also attracted representatives of Microsoft, Mincom, Gartner, Software Engineering Australia and the National Information and Communications Technology Australia. The meeting was organised to "get an accurate feedback from the industry itself about where we think it's at and where it's going", says SEA chief executive Nathan Brumby. The event may be a precursor to the formation of a software industry action group to "take responsibility for the direction and strategy" of Australia's software industry, Brumby says.
